CAFESSIO Roaster (package com.cafessio.roastertool) is a coffee roasting log for Android. This policy explains what happens to your information. The short version: nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, because the app has no way to connect to the internet.
What we collect
Nothing.
This is a property of how the app is built, not a promise about how we behave. The app does not hold Android’s INTERNET permission, so it cannot open a network connection or transmit your information anywhere. We have no server and no account system, and we never see your data.
What the app stores on your device
Everything you create stays in the app’s private storage on your phone:
- Your roasts: temperature readings, events, notes, ratings and cupping scores
- Your recipes and their versions
- Your green coffee lots, including origin, price and remaining weight
- Your roasters and their settings
- Photos you choose to attach to a roast or a coffee lot
- Your settings and preferences, and whether you own Pro
When you attach a photo, you pick it with Android’s photo picker, which only gives the app the photo you select. The app keeps its own copy in private storage; it is not uploaded anywhere.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes all of it.
Android device backup
The app allows Android’s standard device backup for its database and settings (not for photos). If you have turned on backup for your phone, Android may include that data in the backup it stores in your own Google account, or copy it when you transfer to a new phone. That backup is made by Android and Google, not by us, under Google’s privacy policy, and we cannot access it. You can turn device backup on or off in your phone’s settings.
Exports and sharing
You can export your data as a JSON backup, and with Pro as CSV or Artisan-compatible CSV files, and you can share an image of a roast. Each of these only happens when you ask for it, and the file goes only where you choose to save or send it. Once it leaves the app, it is under your control, not ours.
Spoken alerts
With Pro, the app can read roast alerts out loud. This uses the text-to-speech engine already installed on your phone, which is a separate app with its own privacy policy. What is handed to it is the alert text itself (for example, the elapsed time), never your notes or records.
What we do not collect or request
- No account, sign-in, name or email address
- No location, contacts, camera or microphone
- No advertising identifier
- No analytics, tracking or crash reporting
- No advertising
We do not sell, share, rent or broker your information. There is nothing to sell.
Permissions and why
- Notifications: to show the running roast and its alerts. On Android 13 and newer you are asked first
- Foreground service and keeping the processor awake: so the roast timer and alerts keep running accurately with the screen off
- Vibration: for roast alerts
- Google Play billing: to offer the optional Pro purchase
An Android support library the app uses also declares the standard permission to run after the phone restarts, which it needs to restore scheduled background tasks.
Payments
The app is free. CAFESSIO Pro is an optional one-time purchase of USD 9.99, handled entirely by Google Play. We never see, receive or store your payment details. When a purchase completes, the app keeps a record on your device that you own Pro.
Google Play collects information about app downloads and purchases independently of this app, under Google’s own privacy policy.
Children
The app is not directed at children, and it collects no information from anyone, children included.
Your rights
Because your data never reaches us, there is no request to make of us:
- To see your data: open the app
- To take it with you: create a backup in Settings
- To delete it:delete individual records, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app
We cannot access, correct or delete your information on your behalf, because we do not have it.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this document — adding internet access, analytics or crash reporting — this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
